BOOK - THE RED ROOM - Nicci French (June 03, 2008)
I have been really lucky with my books lately. We all pass our books round, so I either get them from 'her up the road' or 4 for £1 from the church porch when I am in the office. This one came from the church (you would be amazed at what get there!). I fancied something a bit different, this is a (short), modern, crime novel.
This is a very easy read. The story is straight forward and you are led through by the very nosey Dr Kit. The sentences are simple and the plot is explained in easy terms.
Without spoiling the plot - it's about a clinical psychologist that won't take the simple answer to a murder that she is asked to look at. And ends up turning up all sorts of stuff.
There is not really a great deal to comment about in this book. It's a light, easy read, great for a relaxing afternoon at the beach or on holiday, or (if we ever get one) a summer's easy read. There is enough substance and detail, and the story telling is strong enough to prevent it from becoming boring. Don't expect too much from it - it's a straight forward, but satisfying read. Use it as a break from heaver stuff to rest the mind. I liked it and was able to just enjoy the story.
