BOOK - BOOKS UNBOUND - Michael Jacobs (June 03, 2008)
It's hard to know whether a craft book is going to be suitable for purpose before you buy it - and especially hard if you live in a book wilderness (like me) and have to rely on the Internet.  I hit really lucky with this book.  It was well rated on all sorts of sites and when it arrived i was thrilled to say the least.

Michael Jacobs is a craftsman specialising in the book form and he has an 'uncluttered' approach to creating a 'book' - he is also very liberal with what he would define as a book - which opens up all sorts of ideas.

And that is the whole point of a good craft book - it's not only what they show you - but it's the sparks they set off!

He starts with basic tools and techniques chapters - beautifully set out and easy to follow.  Then he starts the projects - simple at first and building on what you have learnt.  After each project there are ways to take the book a bit further.

I design in a very modern way - and i love this book because it does the same.  It's colourful - the pictures are hands doing things and the layout is full but clear.  There are so many directions you can take the ideas it will keep you fired up for years.  I have been working my way through and am probably 3/4 of the way through it.  The books are getting more complex - but a book like a house? - a book in a triangle?  I can't wait to get further, but then you see a wonderful bit of card that would just suit.........
