ALL SORTS OF REVIEWS DS REVIEW - SOLITAIRE (July 27, 2008)
Princelet and I went halves on a Nintendo DS last year, but he soon lost interest - it's not really a serious gamer's console. I quite like the idea of the more puzzle type games - and DS seem to be targeting the 'older' (more discerning!) folk with these and brain training stuff. It is not easy to find your way round the games shelves in the supermarket these days - it has all got so complicated, so I thought I would share my games list with you.
I love playing the 'spider' game on the PC, so I thought this game package would be fairly suitable for me. Now, you DO have to like plain, good old fashioned, card games - you can change the patten on the card back, but that's as flash as it gets! No animation - none of the 'blood and gore' that princelet seems to like in his games (thank goodness!), just plain old cards doing - well - card stuff.
There are over 100 - yes 100 - patience card games - and you don't have to spend hours dealing them out (yipee!). You will heard of some of the games- but with this many - very few. Lots of them are similar - that's the nature solitaire - but there are big differences between some of the 'families' of groups, and there is certainly loads to explore.
It took me a few goes to work out how to load a game, and I have to say that not all the 'how to play' the game instructions are fully clear (even that that took me a while to find): but all that is probably me, wanting to get on and fiddle! I have still have not found a 'hint' button - so you have to keep an eye on it all.
Some games I had a couple of goes at and moved on - and some I wanted to 'just one more' etc, until I REALLY, REALLY HAD to go and sort out dinner. I am not sure how you are supposed to remember which you prefer and which you don't, I guess that comes with practising them all! (As if).
This game package is great for keeping you sane, when you have to pass the time, comfortably. If you have to spend hours on trains/plains, - or are ill / resting / recovering, or want something to pass the afternoon on beaches / in gardens, then this is the one to stop you going totally 'snow crazy'.Now, you won't achieve anything with these games - all you do is pass the time: all be it in a fun way, and as long as you realise that you have to enjoy simple patience card games - then this game will keep you hooked for hours.
I just love it and it will keep me occupied for ages.
