Design and 'how to' pages I.A.M.P.E.T.H. SIMPLE ACCORDIAN FOLD BOOK (February 13, 2008)
The accordion book
The accordion book is one of the simplest books to make, and yet, with a bit of imagination and embellishment, this book can look as good as any fully bound book.
You will need:- An A4 sheet of heavy paper / card / double sided scrap book paper.
Step One First of all take the piece of paper that you want to make the pages of your book out of. Start with the A4 size and see what results you get, make notes for the future, then you can start to experiment with sizes.
Fold in it half bringing the longest edges together.
Fold it in half again, this time bringing the shortest edges together.
Fold in half once more, again bringing the shortest edges together.
Unfold your paper so that it is flat again, and you'll have a sheet with creases in - each crease denotes the edge of a future page of your book. See diagram below.
Step Two You’ll notice a solid line drawn in the middle of the diagram, you need to cut along your piece of paper exactly where the solid line is, so that you end up with a U shape.
Step Three Fold over at the one crease in the middle of the page (where shown on the diagram). You'll now see that this fold creates the middle page in the book, and you can accordion fold the rest of the pages either side to finish off your page structure.
Step Four Decorate your book! If you take a look at the picture below you'll see that I have matted the pages ready for photos, added card to either end to give a solid backing to the front of back of the book and added a ribbon tie. Decorate all those pages as you wish and enjoy!
