Someone remarked recently - 'how do you do the dusting in your office - it's so full of bits and bobs'?
Did not really like to say ' Dusting - what's that then'? But I am afraid that would be the true answer.
I am a real 'keeper' of stuff. I don't think that I am a 'hoarder' because I don't keep everything 'just in case' it comes in handy. I drive the old goat nuts because I chuck out bits of leftover wood. HE says they will be USEFUL one day - and I always reply that I will get a new bit when and IF I need it. Can't be doing with stuff just 'hanging' about without a home, just in case.
My office is different. I do keep things for years before I use them, but it's not 'just in case' - it's 'waiting for use'. See the difference?
I have embroidery threads that came from my dear old Aunty Doris - and they must be at least 60 years old. They are so old the Anchor does not even make the number range any more! I have patterned papers that are older that the princelet, and I still use bit and bobs every-so-often.
I love it when someone gives me their leftovers. I have a few bottles of ink that someone had in the garage for years - and they have totally morphed into totally different colours. It's really great when someone saves me a bundle of old cards to re-use, or bits of left over ribbon and a few buttons.
Sometimes things will sit on my shelf for years - then suddenly I have a brain wave. Take the Santa border cards I did this year. I picked the border up for pennies at Lakeland, in the clearance about 4 years ago - not a clue what to do with it. Suddenly, a couple of months ago I had a brain wave - bingo. Like the rest of my scavenger cards - it can never happen again - but I love the flashes of inspiration and the 'doing'.
OK, so, you see the problem - I start in a 'house work' direction, and before I know it, I am off creating again. What was the old slogan? 'A tidy house is the sign of a bored mind'. That's the one. Well, judging by my house - I must have one of the most active minds about - it's certainly not bored.
Now, where were we? Oh, yes, dusting? Well, actually, er, no, I don't. Once or twice a year I get so bogged down by the piles on the shelves that I have a serious sort out - reorganise - clear out - then settle back down on my tidy nest, and start to create again.
