Essays & General Comments 07-12-04 CHARITY SALES (December 04, 2007)
As you know, Hubby and I have been working at 2 Christmas fairs over the past weekend. Both were fund raisers.
Saturday afternoon was for the local Liberal Democrat Party. Now, I am not a political animal - I hate all the talk, and the messing about, and the dithering etc. We all know what needs doing. Girls - we run a house on a budget - we know how it works. BUT, I have to say, our local guy is a star (Tim Farron!) - he works so hard. It's a horrendous journey up and down to London, but he spends half the week there and half the week here with his young family. When ever there is a local event - he is there. He is involved in everything, everywhere. And his volunteer team work incredibly hard. There were a selection of stalls and loads happening
Sunday we went to Morecambe to do a fund raiser for a local animal sanctuary there. First time we have been working in Morecambe - totally different kettle of fish. More of a rummage sale: not the slick, planned approach of the organised fund raisers. Think . . posh office party Vs family 'bit-of-a-do'. Hubby was kept busy, when people got the hang of what he did - I ended up running the plant stall. And huge fun. Super guys.
I have had a lovely week end. I took a little money - I had a natter with folk - I passed on tips to other crafters - that's all I ask for. The Biggest thing I remember is the total dedication of the folks to raise money for their cause - how ever they do it. They all work so hard to plan it - put it together - make sure every one turns up - run around all the time with tea and coffee for the helpers - sort out all the little hic-ups. These guys are special - they run the country while the rest of us are not looking - they find their corner - and defend it - and while they are doing it - they make the world a better place.
Dam it, they just have FUN!! And it's infectious - that's why I had a good weekend - and that's why I will be at the school on Thursday, and at the children's hospice 'do' at the weekend. These guys work so hard and have so much fun doing it!
Go on - support you local Christmas Fair Fund Raiser this week - it's good fun.
