Essays & General Comments 08-01-10 CRAFT CLASS - NEW STAMPS (January 10, 2008)
I am totally shattered - I have not had a decent night in Bed since Monday - I have a headache - I ache all over - I am still typing one handed - and Fidget-knickers is playing in my lap. So I was EXTREMELY pleased to get a break with decent grown-up company and go to class today.
Most of you know me by now, and it's not very often that I get excited about a stamp is it? Usually I think - well that's very pretty, but it costs such a lot and it only does that. Well today we were using a new range that Janet had in and I loved it. It's a set of the clear stamps that you put onto an acrylic block. There are several different sets and the one I liked had 3 big stamps, 3 medium ones and 6 tiddlers on a Art-deco flower theme - all for £12 so I reckon that's good value! There was also flowers in squares, spring flowers/bunnies, flower borders, love hearts, a tags set - which I was also tempted by, and some cute animals. It is a Wood ware set - so I expect there are loads but this was new for us - and to be honest - if I saw it just hanging up in the pack I would not have been inspired (probably because I am not a stamper!), but having the 'hands on' and seeing the possibilities - I was sold.
Now I am not the world's best stamper, but these are super. Good, clean lines (we were using Staz-on), with plain bits to colour in what you fancy. The best way I can describe it is - a bit like a stained glass window effect. This is the card I made. I stamped 2 images and watercoloured them with Whispers pens, and cut out and raised the flower heads and big leaf - put a tiny amount of pink glitter glue just around the top edge of the flowers to 'lift' it. There is a sketched border, each image is matted on an iridescent pink/lilac, the bottom is raised, and the card stock is 'blackberry' pearl.
I can see so much potential for these stamps. I can't wait to try them with the Versa mark to create a background - and coloured with yellow/orange for a 'hot' colour, and blues, how about a border of a scrapbook page, soft pastels would made a beautiful 'dreamy' feel.
I am so excited, and I have a 'free' day tomorrow to fiddle - and I can't wait.
