Essays & General Comments 08-01-18 LET'S ALL GO DOWN THE PUB! (January 18, 2008)
We went out to lunch today with a 'doggie' friend of ours. She is an American with a dog called Peggy. Our two dogs - one barely house trained - one bad tempered grump -and her cute little show off pug dog - look out world!
LUCKILY, we have a great pub to go to.
Brian is a client, and friend. He brews beer at his pub. The Old Goat designs his beer labels, they sit and work out what to call the beer; how the label will work - then Brian decides what strength the beer will be and what to add to it and so on. Clever eh? all over lunch and a pint - Brian is Sooo my favourite client.
Anyway - he has a dog friendly policy. Which, you might think, is a good idea in a dog lead, sheep farming community. But you would be amazed at how rare it is. I once had a tea room refuse me to sit outside to have a pot of tea and a sandwich - after they advertised a walk to get there - unbelievable. The dog community regularly swap notes on where to go; where the best walks are; where the dogs can run free; and, more importantly, where we can go for lunch. The Watermill Inn is always warm and cosy, the staff are always pleased to see us, and dog biscuits and water bowls arrive instantly. As if I needed any other enticement to go to the pub for lunch.
This was Fidget Knickers very FIRST outing in mixed company. He has met Peg at dog training, and of course William has been working with her for a year or more - so that side was OK. (And he has been to the pub, em, quite a lot). Henry did very well for his first time out. He got a bit upset with a couple of the other dogs, which I told him off for. And I was more than panicky about his house manners (if you know what I mean). But I was very pleased with his ability to relate to me for guidance and how he coped. Poor little Lamb - everything is so new, he has only done 2 things the some in his whole life with us.
So, now we are going into our second weekend with Henry and he is going to do things for the second time. I so hope he is starting to make connections. I think he knows his name now - and 'sit' is coming on quite well. Heel work is on the agenda for this week and loads of hugs and love (like that's hard work).
See you all soon, down the pub!
