Essays & General Comments 08-03-07 LATEST CHECK UP (March 07, 2008)
I went for my latest check up today with Ali today. You know they say you are either an artist or a scientist, but you can't be both. Well I really do fall into the 'artist' camp, even if it is only by default of not understanding a word of science.
Well, Ali says I have made some recovery, and the last 'flare-up' spell seems to have come to an end (it has lasted about 14 months!). I have several 'lumps' in my muscles - which are reckoned to be the 'FMS' faults in my muscle texture - I also have one or two spots of 'real' muscle texture starting to form in my arms.
I have a huge lump that has come out in the last 3 - 6 weeks just above my right ankle. Now this is where it gets complicated. If the guaifenisen treatment is working, I should have reversed about 24 years (6 years ill : 1 year taking tablets, + or - a bit for being good / bad), so that would take me back to about when I was 20 years old.
NOW - when I was 16/17 I had a huge riding accident and had a horse roll over one leg and chip my ankle. I was lucky not to shatter my leg, but the ground was extremely muddy (hence the accident in the first place!), and it is thought that it was so wet, my leg bent naturally instead of shattering. Are you keeping up with me? Well the damage took me several years to recover from, so at age 20, I was still recovering.
Several people in the FMS-GUAI support group have talked about having to go 'back' through old injuries, accidents and traumas before they can really 'heal' a place and move on. Well I don't know, I really DON'T understand it all, i just keep taking the tablets - but it is odd. Ali picked it up instantly - 'there is something developing there', right around the place where I had the accident. I had forgotten about it until she said something.
I have to go back in 3 weeks so she can keep a close eye on it, and generally what it going on. I had noticed that this leg was more 'uncomfortable' when I am sitting here working (feet are up on the sofa arm with fidget knickers dosing on my lap - and I have to keep moving my foot), so I am consciously going to exercise the one ankle so I might 'drive' it through the rough patch and help it to do what it needs to - might get worse before it gets better! And I can't wait to see what she thinks.
More to follow . . . .
