Essays & General Comments 08-03-23 START OF THE SEASON'S SHOWS (March 23, 2008)
Easter has been scarily early this year, so the 'summer' round of events has just kicked in already. The old goat and I went to Higham on Saturday to take part in their Arts and Crafts Fair, which has been running for 37 years now. It was quite a long drive - I don't think he quite realised how far it was. 60 miles round here is equal to 809 miles anywhere else because it's all such tiny roads. It was a glorious drive across to Pendle country and it was beautiful. I must start taking pickies, then you can see where I have been.
Many thanks to all there for the fantastic organisation and the wonderful welcome - I had a super day.
They take over the school and have crafts to buy, all laid out in sections. Then there were organists playing all afternoon in the church next door. They put the old goat and I in the Village Hall (next to the church) - in the tea shop (WITH the chocolate cakes!) and a couple of other 'working artists'. One lady was making decoupage cards - one lady was making - well, egg sculptures really, and decorating them - the old goat was drawing people - and, as I was a bit worried about loose ink in bottles, I really concentrated on my book making. It worked for me because I could get people to hold the books - you know how touchy-feely I am! I could also tell them a bit about how I work and how I do things, the papers used and all sorts of stuff.
The folks were super. I explained a variety of different books - sold a few - and sent people home with the sketches of how to make then. I gave out this site address to find out more - so if that's you: welcome.
I am planning a week of book/album making (my favourite thing) to replenish the stocks. Tag books were so popular before Christmas - and that seems set to continue. I only have 2 left now, but I have loads more papers, fibres and ribbons to add to them - so I can't wait to get stuck in.
I am very tired today (Sunday) - yesterday was a very long day for me, so I need to rest for a couple of days - well just not over do things really - so I can get my 'energy back' back into the black. I always get nervous before I do a show because you never know what you will have to face, but (touch wood) so far they have always turned into very enjoyable days.
