I don't travel well and, as you know, have 2 dogs - so my choices are a bit limited. We go about 30 miles down the road - to the sea side. Well it might not sound very far, but there is a HUGE plus side. No aeroplanes, travel, queues, foreign exchanges, traffic, long journeys, jet lag, getting lost, baggage limits, lost luggage, early flights: shall I go on?
Princelet and I have been going to Cockerham Sands for a few years now - we live on the Lakeland Fells, so, even though it's not far, the sea side is totally different from what we are used to! Princelet and I do a huge Morrison's shop (and treats and goodies to last us the week) - throw all sorts of stuff (and the dogs!) in the car and the old goat drives us down and drops us off. He does not stay with us, he hates doing nothing: and I have to REST!!!
There are very few places that I can let the palace guard dog off so he can just run, and run, and run, and he loves it. The font is all beach (it is part of the Morecombe Bay Estuary), it is very isolated - so, no people, no gardens, no sheep, no cows, no bird's breeding, nothing and no one for him to upset - so I can let him off to run.
It was fidget knickers first time at the sea, and I was a bit worried about how he would take to it all. No probs!! He loved it. Stayed really close to mummy (such a sweetie) and danced about while the guard dog swam about and raced to the OTHER SIDE of the estuary chasing after the birds (he just goes - you have to let him - it's his nature!). I am sure they know and tease him - they swoop just in front of him and take off again - with him in hot pursuit.
I had to bribe princelet with a set of Red Dwarf DVDs - still SOO good (glad he has got taste!). But he generally mucked in and had a good time.
We have one more week booked for late August - and I reckon that will be it!
Princelet is getting too old for quiet holidays with his mummy. I have done very well - he will be 14 in September, so I have kept it going longer than most. Next year he will want to be messing about with his pals - and I will be holidaying in the Summer House - ALONE (with fidget!).
Such is life.....
