HERE ARE A FEW OF THE THINGS I HAVE FOUND THAT HELP MY COPE WITH THIS ILLNESS- THEY MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU, BUT IT'S WORTH A GO.
 
  • Those thermal heat pads you can get - I get them from Boyes 2 for 99p.  They say the heat lasts for up to 12 hours - in my experience they can go for 15 hours.  I do sleep with one, even though the instructions say not to  - and it does help me get a better rest
  •  Soaking in a hot bath - especially with Epsom Salts and Bicarbonate of Soda added. You can get them from Boots, or if you have a friendly vet they can get them in big tubs.
  •  A Good Doctor - a really understanding doctor that is prepared to accept fibro exists and will look for things to help you.  If your doctor does not accept the fibro exists -  register with one who does.
  • Family help.  Trouble is you look so well and always used to do loads of stuff.  Show them all the information about your illness and try to explain.  If they really refuse to accept that you are ill and think you are pretending - see as little of them as passable, don't use all your precious energy up on them.  And I know that's easier said than done, but it's another self saving device.
  • I do yoga.  I have worked with my teacher for years and she understands my body (yoga teachers are really well trained in the body's systems).  There are loads of different yoga systems, I do Ienga Yoga posture work, which is all about breathing and postures, and not fast moving.  I have found it keeps my back and shoulders much straighter, but I know it's too much for some people.  Some people find swimming helpful - if you can find a warm pool,  I find that too draining.
  • Don't force yourself to do something.  If you feel you have a bit of energy - use it (gently), but if you force yourself to overdo things you won't go through the barrier as they say - the barrier will fall on you and knock you off your feet.
  • There is no such thing as 'too much' sleep.  When I am rough I sleep 12/14 hours a night AND have an afternoon nap of 1 or 2 hours.  The more you sleep the better you rest so the more you sleep and get better rest and so on and so on and so on.
