08-07-01 FILES (July 01, 2008)
I got myself in a right old pickle the other night when I was trying to add last week's sketch.  some of the sketches were the same and some dates were missing.  The thing is - I have files stored in 4 places.  I create them in Word (and keep a copy), scan then and put them in my comp photo files (copy 2), then upload them from there to the photo files here (which makes another copy), lastly I insert the image in the 'sketches' page (4 copies - thank heavens I don't have to redraw them all!).

The files in word were numbered in the order I did them, the photo files here were numbered by the month then -1/2/3/4 for the order I did them in - then the 'sketches' page is all logged in pure date order.

Now here is a tip - don't keep sets of files that are the same with different titles, UNLESS you want to get in to a right old pickle that is!

somewhere about the holiday time I added the same image twice to the 'sketches' page - missed out the one it should have been - got the numbers wrong in the Word file and it all went pants up.

I have only just noticed because I have not been able to keep up with the actual pages - and was just about to - when  .  .  .  .   oops.  After tearing my hair out last night I have finally renamed everything, reordered everything, put in what was missing, and am now ready to draw up this week's sketch (and file it properly) - and (YIPPEE) start to catch up with the real pages.

So the moral of this story is - work out a file system BEFORE you add loads of images - don't just stuff them all in the 'In Tray' until they topple over.
